“Our bodies know where they are meant to be.” I try to listen to where that may be.

This exhibition,“Our bodies know where they are meant to be.”, shown at New Systems Exhibitions in Portland, Maine during October of 2020, demonstrates the artist’s process for listening to the natural landscape. The natural elements of this show were all procured on the Southern Maine coastline: the rocks washed ashore at Scarborough Beach, the pieces of mud and grass extracted from the low tide areas of Little John Island, and the feathers and wings of Flickers, Seagulls, and Red Winged Blackbirds found along the sidewalks of Portland. The artist’s process for selecting the natural materials is intuitive and honed over time. In an effort to translate this magical process, they draw upon their training as a formal painter, sculptor, and poet to facilitate a mutual process for shedding and grief.

I tend to carry the earth with me; just what’s risen to the surface.

I tend to move about only what’s ready; only what is clearly articulated.

I tend to the grounds’ hope to be heard; I hope I listen well.
